Do you wear dresses more often? 3 reason why I don’t

There’s no denying dresses are essential to a wardrobe. They’re perfect to wear to a wedding, to slip on quickly, or on a night out.

Here’s 3 reasons why i don’t buy as many dresses:

  1. Separates are VERSATILE. If you think within these terms while buying clothes that ultimately work with each other and are all in the same color family, you will have an enormously versatile wardrobe. What I do is make purchases of separates that are all either tans, nudes, creams and white. I do this simply because I know what colors look fabulous on my skin tone, and buying these separates means they will all be interchangeable with each other.
  2. Separates are CHEAPER. Think of all the tops or shorts and skirts you could buy that would  be cheaper than the price of one dress. Maybe that’s because where I shop, a dress is more expensive than a top and bottom put together. I do this, obviously to save money, but also because in the long run I know I will get more use out of pieces that can be better incorporated into my wardrobe than just one single item that is worn by itself. This is how I see it: Compare a dress to an absurd purchase like a turquoise belt. A turquoise belt would not fit nicely in my wardrobe since I wouldn’t have much to wear it with. It would probably be used once a month, if that, and would be a waste of money. This is how I feel about purchasing dresses, you can only wear them once every two weeks before someone notices that you just wore it. In contrast, separates can be worn with so many different styles, shorts, skirts, tucked in, half tucked, or boldly worn with a bright color so I feel that it is then, not a noticeable if separates are worn more often.
  3. Separates can PASS AS A DRESS. This is so important. I have tricked a few people with my separates, and the way to do it is to stay in the same color family, or as close to the same color as possible. My favourite for the summer is wearing white on white or cream on cream. It is a soft, yet bold look that comes off as clean and sweet on a summer day.

Here are my looks of separates that I’ve worn recently:

cream crop top with a cream skirt

This all white look has been my favourite so far. I put it together literally within a few seconds.

I was so comfy all day. We went out in the hot Texas weather to an outdoor farmer’s market and I couldn’t have been happier.

The top is an eyelet off-the-shoulder from LOFT, but it’s a trend now so you can seriously get them anywhere.

The skirt is a white flounce from Banana Republic. I had to size down on it since I like to wear high-waisted bottoms.

24 things about me

  1. LOL!! It’s so funny I just read another post somewhere else saying how flattering dresses are on everyone! I’m short too so when I shop online for dresses I add about 5 inches to how it looks on the 6 foot tall model to see where it will sit on me!! Dresses are so easy for work though I can get dressed in like 2 min!!

  2. Frances

But you can fold most dresses in half an wear them as skirts, or put a skirt over it and use it as a top.
